Arne Slot was for . The 23-year-old emerged from the substitutes' bench to replace the injured Alisson in a game against Crystal Palace earlier this month, but lined up between the sticks for the first time in in the EFL Cup.

Jaros was beaten twice on the night, and might think he could have done better with Brighton's first goal of the game after parrying Evan Ferguson's shot into the path of Simon Adingra. However, he could do little about Tariq Lamptey's deflected strike after the

The Czech produced some important saves on the night, most notably in the first half, when he denied Lamptey in a one-on-one, and also in the second half, when he sprung to his left to palm a header by Adingra onto the post.

Slot praised the performance of his third-choice goalkeeper, referencing the importance of the saves he made, and also mentioned how pleased he was with how Jaros performed with the ball at his feet.

"Everybody could see how important his saves were,” said Slot at a press conference after the game. “I think the first big chance of the game was for them where he saved the one versus one. Then in the second half of course we all remember one or two saves he made as well.

“But you also add to that how comfortable he was with the ball at his feet. Making the right choices; when to go short, when to clip the ball long towards the striker. Jaros was handed a place in the starting line-up after Slot opted to give Caoimhin Kelleher the night off following a run of three successive starts for the Ireland goalkeeper. First-choice 'keeper Alisson remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, and is not expected to return for the Reds until after the international break.
