A person was killed in an explosion in Bedford this morning, as another was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
were called this morning to Cleat Hill, Bedford, after the incident. Another was taken to hospital with serious injuries as officers evacuated other people from near the scene.
Befordshire Police said on X: "One person is confirmed to have died in an explosion and subsequent fire that occurred in Cleat Hill, Bedford this morning (Saturday). A second person was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
"We have has set up an Emergency Assistance Centre for people who have been evacuated. Enquiries are ongoing to identify the cause of the explosion and residents still in their homes should keep their windows open.
"We understand this incident is very concerning for those who live in the vicinity and are still advising for people to avoid the Cleat Hill area whilst work at the scene continues. Anyone needing extra emotional support can call the Samaritans helpline on 116 123."
