As we say cheerio to the mild UK autumn, the shorter, darker mornings signal the festive season is nigh.
Yet before we settle in for the winter, there's time to tick off some essential garden chores. user horticultural sensation @themediterraneangardener, followed by a staggering 453,000 fans, recently dished out must-do October tasks for you to have blooming beauties by next summer.
In his latest video, he advised: "You don't want to plant tulips yet but hyacinth, crocus, daffodils and alliums would look fantastic in your pots or borders, you just need to plant them three times a depth for the bulb."
He further recommended: "This month is the last opportunity for you to aerate, scarify and over seed your lawn. You can start collecting seeds from hardy perennials for next year and get your herbs ready for winter by cutting them back now."

He also highlighted that houseplants require less watering, a good clean, and should be repositioned away from chilly window ledges. Finally, he reminded fans not to neglect cleaning out the greenhouse to clear any unwelcome plant debris.
"Let in the weaker autumn daylight and instal a water butt to make good use of the autumn rain," he explained before concluding: "Finally move potted citrus plants inside over winter, keeping them cool but frost free."
After dishing out these essential October tips, the post quickly amassed 36,000 likes and a flurry of comments.
