Janey Godley's message to Donald Trump goes viral as famous comedians pay tribute after death

had never shied away from speaking her mind which is perhaps one of the reasons why she found fame during lockdown, with her dubbed versions of Nicola Sturgeon's Covid briefings.

But now, following her sad death following her battle with cancer, her defiant message to the US presidential candidate has gone viral, after a host of comedians and fans inundated X to pay tribute to the late star. In one picture posted by a fan she is seen holding up a placard that read: "Trump is a c***."

Fans of the comedian posted their tributes to Janey and her family including who said: "Spirit of Glasgow comedy award winner." This message was accompanied by her message to Donald Trump. And Dom Joly, who found fame with a number of sketches including talking loudly on a huge mobile phone out in public, wrote: "RIP Janey Godley - she was one of a kind and a lovely, funny person. #janeygodley."

And his message was also paired with the same message to the . TV star wrote: "I loved @JaneyGodley. She made me laugh every day, she loved a sausage, and no one has ever given a more comprehensive assessment of the personal qualities of the 45th President of the United States. #RIPJaney, and condolences to her family and friends."

Posted by one fan was a picture of Janey laying in a hospital bed holding up a t-shirt with the same message to Trump, showing that she still maintained the same spirit in her latter years. The heart-breaking news of her death was announced on Janey's X page and it read: "Earlier this morning, Janey passed away in her sleep. Her family were with her. The love and support from all her friends and fans during this cancer journey brought her enormous joy. It has also been a huge comfort to us, her family and close friends, thank you."

Janey had been battling terminal cancer for months and recently moved into a hospice to receive palliative care. Paying tribute to her mum was her daughter Ashley Storrie, who said in a video clip: "My mum, Janey Godley, died this morning about seven. "

She added: "She was with friends and family and I wanted to tell you face-to-face because it felt very much what she would have wanted. She went peacefully. And I want to say a big thank you to all the staff at the Prince and hospice. And a big thank you to mum’s family, who were around her throughout these last horrible days."

She continued: “Thank you for all being there and for making a very scary moment peaceful and a nice transition. And I want to thank all of you for your kindness and support, I know in my heart she felt every bit of love that you sent to her and I think we got her longer because of all the love and support and love in the . But that’s it . It’s over now. Thanks once again. Bye Mama and Frank get the door."

And fans wasted no time in posting their condolences in the comment section of her post. One person wrote: "Janey was and will remain a legend, so supportive to other creatives, so warm and kind. What a woman." Meanwhile, another said: "She was one of a kind, made us laugh. My condolences and much love." In September Janey was forced to cancel her Why Is She Still Here?' tour due to her illness.
