Ton-topping net worth

Mourinho earned a stellar salary during his various managerial tenures, leaving him with an estimated fortune that just tips the £100million mark.

Notably, the figures received when his employers sacked him have contributed significantly to this sum, with him infamously receiving a £15m payout from Spurs when relieved of his duties in 2021.

The Red Devils, who travel to Istanbul tonight (Thursday) to face Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, also paid the 61-year-old a hefty severance package, and in 2015, it was reported that Chelsea parted with £12.5m in a similar fashion.

These figures paid to the Portuguese represented his yearly salary before being shown the exit door, and though this has often been over £10m – totalling £97.6m from his time in English football – he is earning a little less in Turkey with a reported £8.75m-a-season deal penned.

Wife and the Three Lions

Having supposedly met in Mourinho’s hometown of Setubal when they were younger, the Portuguese has been married to his wife, Matilde Faria, for 35 years.

The pair were wed in 1989 and have two children together: daughter and namesake to her mother Matilde, who was born in 1996, and Jose Mario Jr, who was born in 2000.

Mourinho’s other half was also partly responsible for him turning down the chance to manage England in 2014. In his second spell at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho was touted to take over from Steve McClaren at the Three Lions’ helm before some words of wisdom from his wife.

"My players said, ‘the guys from Manchester United and call us and say to us: Tell your boss to come.’ I had lots of positive things to push me,” Mourinho stated.

"My wife told me not to take it, and she was right. It was the right decision. We are talking about seven years ago… and I cannot wait two years for a big competition. I cannot be spending two years playing against Kazakhstan and San Marino.”

Footballing son

Mourinho’s son, Jose Jr, is now 24 and has, much like his father, looking to take a step off the field and into the dugout. Once an aspiring goalkeeper, the Portuguese was on ’s books for three years but was released in 2017 with the view that he would, one day, follow his father into coaching.

And, if The Special One is to be believed, he may achieve said goal, despite being out of the game at the minute. In 2018, with Mourinho at United, he allowed his son to enter the managerial fray, sitting on the bench and offering an analysis of his father’s side post-match.

"In a period of a few bad results one day, he comes up with some analysis on my team – obviously suffering because dad wasn’t doing well,” Mourinho revealed.

"We had lost to and , I think, and he came with the stats of the team. I showed them to my assistants, and I told them, 'be careful as one day this boy will take one of your places’.”
