AI chatbot platform Character.AI has launched its new AI technology, TalkingMachines. This is a new diffusion model capable of creating real-time, audio-driven, FaceTime-like interactive videos. The Google-owned startup said that this model can create a live video of a character with different styles, genres, and identities through just an image and voice signal.
What is TalkingMachines?
TalkingMachines is based on a Diffusion Transformer (DiT) model, which uses Asymmetric Knowledge Distillation technology. Through this, a high-quality video model is converted into a fast-working generator in real-time. This model listens to the voice and synchronizes the movements of the character's mouth, eyes, and head accordingly. There is no reduction in the expression of the character with every word, pause, and tone; that is, the image quality, style, and expressiveness remain intact.
Special module for audio
Character.AI has developed an audio module with 1.2 billion parameters, which can capture not only voice but also silence. The company claims that this model can create videos of unlimited length without quality degradation.
Which styles does it support?
Photorealistic humans
Anime characters
3D avatars
This feature is specially designed for role-play, storytelling, and interactive world-building.
This new TalkingMachines feature of Character.AI will make AI-based characters more human, lively, and interactive, and that too in real-time. This can prove to be a big step for future digital stories and the gaming world.
