After Virat Kohli fell for a duck in the first ODI in Perth, fans were hoping for a comeback from the ‘King’ of cricket in Adelaide. But it was not to be. This time Kohli did not even last as many deliveries and fell for the same score. In Perth, he lasted eight balls but here he only made it to four. In the first game he fell to Mitchell Starc, this time it was Xavier Bartlett.
Is Virat Kohli’s ODI Career Over? But what happened after that is the reason why the retirement rumours have gotten even more intense. As Kohli walked off distraught, he waved in acknowledgement to the crowd. One must remember that this is the venue where Kohli has been the most successful across formats. Outside India, this could be called his second home as far as batting is concerned.

There was already speculation that this would be the end of the road for Rohit Sharma and him. Now that will once again come into focus. His gesture as he walked off may be a prelude to the end of an era. Of course, it may have been because this is in all probability the last time he will play in Adelaide. But for a man nearing 37 and who has been around since 2008, it is not far-fetched to think it was time to call it a day. Since he only plays ODIs, an ODI exit is also an international farewell.
Rohit Sharma Delivers Along with Shreyas IyerKohli walked in to bat after India lost Shubman Gill early. But four balls later he was trapped in front. He thought about taking a review but Rohit talked him out of it. He walked off and it would have been out so India were saved from wasting a review. Rohit (73) and Shreyas Iyer (61) then repaired the damage somewhat with a second-wicket stand of 118.

Kohli has now scored just one run in his last three innings in ODIs. His last score over 50 came in the Champions Trophy semis vs Australia when he made 84. His last century was vs Pakistan in the Group stage of the same tournament when he scored 100 not out.
Virat Kohli’s Shot at RedemptionThe right-hander and former skipper has one more chance to redeem himself on this tour when he takes guard in the 3rd and final ODI on October 25. If he comes good, he may be considered for the ODIs vs South Africa in a little over a month. If he does not, the selectors may have to take a tough call.
