Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin’s Only Murders in the Building just ended its fifth season with a banging finale that is available to watch on JioHotstar. For each season, there exists a new murder and a new killer within the Archonia. It is up to Mable, Charles and Oliver to find that killer with a little help here and there.
The satirical thriller acts as a breath of fresh air in an era where shows try to be both but always end up being either/or. Even The Bear was initially advertised to be a comedy show when it is more inclined towards drama. Right after the finale aired, the sixth season of the show was announced and this time, the trio is going to London.

The sixth season of Only Murders in the Building is already in the works. As Mable, Oliver and Charles get geared up to solve Cynda Canning’s murder, their journey will take them far outside of the Archonia and all the way to London. This begs the question of just when the show would begin to feel overdone and stretched out.

For every season of the series, one would think that the story would finally be over, but then, right at the end, someone dies. You’d think, “Oh well, the next season will definitely be mediocre.” However, each new episode hooks you in with its mystery and comedy. Somehow, it doesn’t feel like it’s being milked dry.
Instead, there is always this sense of freshness that blends in with cliches and overused tropes. The series has made such elements its strength and nobody wants to give up an opportunity to see Selena Gomez, Martin Short and Steve Martin in action. It becomes less about finding the killer and more about what the trio will do next.
This becomes even more important when we realise just how many shows are getting reboots one after the other. It acts as an attempt to reignite the fire of older shows and bank on their fame, especially for shows like Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars. OMITB doesn’t have to do that at all.

Even if something or the other gives away the killers in Only Murders in the Building, fans tend to keep watching, not because they want to be proven right or wrong, but because Oliver, Mable and Charles are just that captivating as characters. They all have their own individual arcs going on while they grow as a trio.
It doesn’t shy away from letting each character grow at the pace they require. This keeps the story fresh. Shows like The Family Man and Stranger Things take years to release new seasons, but OMITB has been on a strong one-season-every-year schedule.
The more formidable actors join the cast, the more convincing it becomes that the show has something going for it. This became even more obvious when Meryl Streep joined as Oliver’s love interest and now wife. These days, if a show is longer than two or three seasons, it is likely to get boring. The Hulu original doesn’t have to worry about that at all.
