Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], April 8 (ANI): Ahead of the AICC national convention, Gujarat Congress President Shaktisinh Gohil on Tuesday said that the Congress has always put national interest first. He said that at the convention, they will make resolutions on the future plans and visions for the party's functioning.
Speaking to ANI, Shaktisinh Gohil said, "Congress has always put national interest first. During the independence struggle, it was Congress, and in one such convention, there were demands of sovereignty. Whenever there is an AICC session, we make resolutions with new visions and plans for future goals. There will be discussions today and tomorrow..."
Addressing the party's failure to form a government in the state, Gohil stated that while they have failed to form a government, they are Rahul Gandhi's 'soldiers' and will keep fighting.
He said, "It is true that we have failed to form a government in Gujarat for a long time. There are many reasons for this. If you ask any Gujarati, no one is happy with the BJP. We are soldiers of Rahul Gandhi and will keep fighting."

When asked if Congress would form an alliance with AAP in Gujarat, Gohil said, "When the time comes, we will tell you. Our government was about to be formed in Haryana. We wanted an alliance. We offered some seats, but the Aam Aadmi Party did not agree. We will talk to you when the time comes. Our politics does not run on predictions."
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar asserted that this CWC meeting and AICC session in Ahmedabad will be a turning point for the party. He said, "It will be a turning point for the Congress party."

Ahmedabad will host the 84th National Convention of the AICC on April 8-9, marking the event's historic return to Gujarat after a 64-year gap.
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting will be held later today in the city as part of the convention.
Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi left their residences in Delhi for Ahmedabad to attend the meeting.
The meeting, set against the scenic backdrop of the Sabarmati Riverfront, will also be attended by other top Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi, and KC Venugopal.
Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde said, "We do not run the government in the name of caste and religion. We are secular. This land is of Mahatma Gandhi, who taught us 'Ishwar Allah Tere Naam, and we are moving ahead with that..."
Congress leader Meira Kumar said, "This is the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. Congress party's session is going to be held here. Gujarat has given strength to the Congress, and now again, the people of Gujarat will give strength to the Congress."
Earlier on Saturday, AICC formed a drafting committee for the meeting. The committee consists of big names, such as Sachin Pilot, Bhupesh Baghel, and 13 others. Randeep Surjewala has been named the Convenor of the drafting committee. (ANI)
