The India U-19 cricket team is currently touring England for a series featuring five Youth ODIs and two Youth Tests, starting June 27. Ahead of the official fixtures, the team played a 50-over warm-up match against an Invitational XI at Loughborough on Tuesday.
After winning the toss, the hosts chose to bowl first. IPL 2025 breakout players Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi opened the innings for India but failed to make an impact, scoring just 18 runs between them. Mhatre fell in the second over, followed by Suryavanshi in the fifth.
India found themselves struggling at 91/5 by the 13th over. However, a solid partnership between Kanishk Chouhan (79) and Rahul Kumar (73) steadied the innings, with the duo adding 140 runs off 112 balls. After their dismissals, India stood at 251/7 in the 36th over when Harvansh Singh Pangalia joined RS Ambrish at the crease.
What followed was a stunning counterattack. Ambrish smashed 72 off 47 balls, while Pangalia initially settled in before exploding in the death overs. After reaching 47 off 33 balls, he brought up his fifty with a boundary on the next delivery. In the final three overs, the 18-year-old wicketkeeper-batter tore into the English attack.
In the 48th over, Pangalia launched two massive sixes off Manny Lumsden, who also bowled consecutive no-balls. He continued the assault with another six off Matthew Firbank in the next over. In the final over, Pangalia wrapped up the innings with a flurry—one four and three consecutive sixes off Lumsden, the last of which brought up his century in just 52 balls. His second fifty came off an astonishing 18 deliveries. India ended the innings at a commanding 442/9.
Pangalia’s explosive knock included nine sixes, with a clear preference for the leg-side boundary. Representing Saurashtra in youth cricket, the Gandhidham native is also known for a 117-run innings against Australia last October, where he hit seven fours and six sixes. His family now lives in Canada, where his father works as a truck driver in Brampton.
