A total of 1,009 candidates, including 725 men and 284 women, have successfully cleared this year’s civil services examination, the results of which were announced on Tuesday. The UPSC conducts the civil services examination every year in three stages — preliminary, main, and the personality test (or interview) — to select officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other central services.
The preliminary examination consists of two objective-type (multiple-choice) question papers worth 400 marks. This stage is intended solely as a screening test, and the marks obtained by candidates who qualify for the main examination do not contribute to their final merit ranking. The 2024 civil services preliminary examination was held on June 16 of the previous year. A total of 9,92,599 candidates had applied, with 5,83,213 appearing for the test.
Aditya Srivastava emerged as the topper of the 2023 civil services examination, securing 54.27% or 1,099 marks (899 in the main exam and 200 in the interview).
