The Gujarat stations on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor are nearing completion. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw earlier said that India's first bullet train service will commence very soon, and it will cut the travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to two hours and seven minutes.
The Bullet Train stations on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor in Gujarat are nearing completion, Ministry of Railways said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.
"The first bullet train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad will start very soon, and the work on the project is going on at a fast pace. When it starts running, the journey from Mumbai to Ahmedabad will take only two hours and seven minutes," Vaishnaw said during an event at Bhavnagar terminus.
During the Parliament's monsoon session, he said that work on the entire bullet train project from Maharashtra to the Sabarmati section is expected to be over by December 2029.
India's first bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will span 508 kilometres, starting from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) area in Mumbai. The bullet train will run at a high speed of 320 km per hour, connecting Gujarat's Vapi, Surat, Anand, Vadodara and Ahmedabad.
It is passing through Gujarat, Maharashtra and Dadra & Nagar Haveli with 12 stations planned at Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Billimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.
The Gujarat portion of the corridor between Vapi and Sabarmati is planned to be completed by December 2027, Vaishnaw informed in a written reply in Parliament.
As per government information, the total estimated cost of the project is approximately Rs. 1,08,000 crore, out of which Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is funding 81% i.e. Rs. 88,000 crore and the balance 19% i.e. Rs. 20,000 crore will be funded through equity contributions from the Ministry of Railways (50%) and governments of Maharashtra (25%) and Gujarat (25%).
Till June 30, the government has incurred a cumulative financial expenditure of Rs. 78,839 crore.
