While the ruling Mahayuti alliance has accepted that there would be a few 'friendly fights' where the allies have also fielded their candidates, the Maha Vikas Aghadi has decided that there would be no such friendly fights.
There are close to 11 such seats where the MVA allies have put their official candidates which have been allotted to other allies.
Maharashtra Congress in charge, Ramesh Chennithala said on Wednesday that the parties would withdraw their official candidates. "We will not have a friendly fight in any of the seats. We will work together, there will be no friendly fights in the Maha Vikas Aghadi," Chennithala said while addressing a press conference in Mumbai.
Chennithala is supposed to meet Uddhav Thackeray for discussions on withdrawing candidates and rebels from certain seats.
For the MVA, it's just not grappling with bigger parties like the Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP(SP), even smaller parties like the Peasants and Workers Party and the Samajwadi Party have fielded their official candidates in several seats. The SP, angered that it got just two seats, has fielded their candidates in six more seats. Similarly, the PWP, upset that it just got one seat, has also fielded their candidates in four more seats.
Chennithala said that they would be speaking to SP leaders on the seat issue. The Congress has already compromised with allies on the seat-sharing issue. For instance, it had given a ticket to Dilip Mane, the Congress candidate from Solapur South. However after the Sena (UBT) faction objected as they too had given a ticket to their candidate the Congress leadership decided not to give the AB forms to Mane. An upset Mane decided to contest as an independent. Chennithala noted that there are several rebel Congress candidates in the fray and said state Congress president Nana Patole, CLP leader Balasaheb Thorat and Vijay Wadettiwar have been tasked to convince these leaders to withdraw their candidature.
Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Raut said the party is willing to come to an understanding with the PWP.
"All the MVA leaders will meet before November 3 and we will resolve it. There has been a bit of anger among those who are upset over being denied tickets. However, we will explain matters to them," said Raut.
