Former Indian team captain Sunil Gavaskar's organization will provide financial assistance to former cricketer Vinod Kambli, who has been suffering from health problems for some time. According to media reports, Gavaskar's organization will give Rs 30,000 per month to Kambli. Apart from this, an additional Rs 30,000 will be given annually for medical expenses.

Met Kambli at Wankhede Stadium
Gavaskar met Kambli on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. During this, there was a discussion between Gavaskar and Kambli for a while. According to reports, after meeting at Wankhede Stadium, Gavaskar talked to Kambli's doctors. After learning about Kambli's health, Gavaskar instructed his organization to provide financial and medical assistance to Kambli. Kambli has started receiving this help from April 1.
Kambli was admitted to the hospital last year.
In December 2024, Kambli was admitted to a private hospital in Thane due to a urinary tract infection and muscle cramps. After investigation, a blood clot was detected in his brain. Kambli was discharged from the hospital after nearly two weeks of treatment. He came home on January 1, 2025, on the occasion of the New Year. During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, Gavaskar had said that the 1983 World Cup-winning team was considering helping Kambli.
Kambli's career
Kambli played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India between 1993 and 2000. He is the fastest Indian batsman to score 1000 Test runs. This is a record that stands to date. Despite playing 104 ODIs and 17 Tests for India after making his international debut in 1991, Kambli's international career could not last even a decade. Kambli scored 1084 runs in 17 Tests at an average of 54.20. These include four centuries and three half-centuries.

Apart from this, he scored 2477 runs in 104 ODIs at an average of 32.59. These include two centuries and 14 half-centuries. Apart from this, he scored 9965 runs in 129 first-class matches at an average of 59.67. These include 35 centuries and 44 half-centuries. Apart from this, Kambli scored 6476 runs in 221 List-A matches at an average of 41.24. These include 11 centuries and 35 half-centuries.
