Kolkata Knight Riders, who had suffered two defeats in the Indian Premier League, got a big win against Hyderabad. In this match, the team scored 200 runs even after losing 4 wickets for 106 runs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane's planning and match experience came in handy behind this. Venkatesh Iyer played a brilliant innings of 60 runs in the match while Angkrish Rashwanshi also scored a fifty. Hyderabad's team collapsed for just 120 runs while chasing the target.

Venkatesh Iyer, who played a brilliant innings against Hyderabad, said that KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane had sent a message during the time-out. It was because of this message that he was able to take the team to a big score. Rahane had said that he should take time to understand the pitch because it is not easy to bat on it.

Iyer said, "The messages that Rahane and Raghuvanshi sent during the time-out explained to us that it is not easy to go out and hit straight on the pitch. You have to take time. The ball was stopping a bit, it was turning. So it was important for us not to hit every ball but to understand what the pitch was offering. I had that opportunity because we had Rinku, Ramandeep (Singh), and (Andre) Russell." He further said, "Even if I take a few balls, I know if I can cover it to some extent. We still have our engine room which can demolish any bowling attack. So the plan was to first understand the pitch and then react accordingly."
