Morena (Madhya Pradesh): Terror of sand mafias continues in Chambal as the accused assaulted a forest department team at midnight during patrolling in the Devgarh police station area. Two forest guards sustained injuries in the attack and multiple vehicles were damaged.
According to officials, the joint team from Deori and Morena, led by Deori Game Ranger Bhura Gaikwad, spotted a tractor-trolley laden with illegal sand around 11 pm. Upon seeing the forest team, the driver sped up and later abandoned the vehicle to flee the scene.
The forest department officials were taking the tractor-trolley to Devgarh police station after seizing it, when half a dozen gravel mafias attacked them by pelting stones as soon as they reached the main road.
The forest department team fought the gravel mafias and reached the police station with the tractor-trolley. Forest guard Mahesh Dhakad and forest guard Sunil Kanshana sustained injuries in this attack.
Apart from this, two vehicles were also damaged. According to reports issued by the forest officials, the police have registered a case against 4-5 unknown accused including the tractor owner.
Ranger Bhura Gaikwad confirmed the attack and stated that efforts to curb illegal sand mining in the region will continue irrespective of such attacks
