A retired Assistant Commissioner of Police who went to trek on Sinhagad Fort in the city died of a severe heart attack on Saturday. The name of the deceased retired police official is Rajkumar Gaikwad (age 62).
According to the information given by the police, Rajkumar Gaikwad, who is originally from Pune and currently lives in Market Yard, had gone trekking to Sinhagad Fort with his friends. While climbing Sinhagad Fort, he suddenly started feeling pain in his chest. This was noticed by his friends. A doctor friend was also with him.
Therefore, the said doctor friend initially gave first aid to Gaikwad there and then admitted him to a nearby private hospital. However, the doctors told them that Gaikwad had died before treatment. Gaikwad's other colleagues were shocked to learn that the friend who had accompanied them on the trek had passed away.
Rajkumar Gaikwad was a person of amiable nature. He had served in many police stations in Pune. He had served as a senior police inspector at Swargate police station. He had also worked in places like Mumbai. Gaikwad's death has brought a mountain of grief to the family.
Meanwhile, the Haveli police have registered a case of accidental death after conducting a panchnama in this case.
