Udhampur Basantgarh Encounter: A terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Bihali area of Basantgarh in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. This entire area falls under forest area where security forces have surrounded four terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed. These terrorists were being searched for the last one year.
The Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police started a search operation in Basantgarh Bihali area based on accurate information. During this, firing started from the terrorists, to which the security forces responded. Additional security forces have been sent to this area. Security forces are conducting search operations amidst bad weather.
Inspector General of Police of Jammu Range Bhim Sen Tuti said, at 8:30 am, 4 terrorists have been found, whom we were searching for the last one year. Despite the fog, the search operation is going on and the real situation will be known only after the weather improves.
According to a report by news agency PTI, officials said that the terrorists who have been surrounded are members of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed and a joint search team led by Army's Para Commandos found them hiding near Karur Nala. The Jammu-based Army's White Knight Corps posted on X, "Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint operation in Bihali area of Basantgarh. Encountered terrorists. Search operation is still going on."
This operation, codenamed 'Operation Bihali', has been started at a time when the annual Amarnath Yatra will start in Kashmir after a week. Apart from this, the security forces had launched a search operation in the Purmandal area of Samba district late on Wednesday (25 June 2025) after receiving information about suspicious activity. However, the operation ended peacefully after nothing was recovered.
