Hit crime drama is a must-watch for fans of BBC One's Death in Paradise

If you're pining for fresh episodes of Death in Paradise, this crime drama set in Australia might just be the ideal substitute.

Darby and Joan first graced our television screens back in 2022 and made a comeback with a second series in 2024. The show, starring Greta Scacchi and Bryan Brown, has been well-received by telly enthusiasts.

The plot revolves around retired Australian detective Jack Darby (played by Bryan) and widowed English nurse, Joan Kirkhope (portrayed by Greta), who form an unexpected alliance while seeking answers about her husband's mysterious demise.

Darby and Joan is currently being broadcast on U&Drama, but can also be streamed on U in the UK, reports Wales Online.

The synopsis states: "Widowed English nurse Joan Kirkhope is on a quest to find answers about her husband's mysterious death, while ex-detective Jack Darby has taken to the open road to escape his past.

"But when they collide in the Australian outback and become drawn into a series of mysteries, this unlikely investigative duo soon realises the most intriguing puzzle they face is each other."

Jolene Anderson also features in the series. The first season saw guest appearances from Heather Mitchell, Anna McGahan, John Waters, Angie Milliken, Caroline Gillmer, and Casey Donovan.

The second series welcomes guest stars such as Sigrid Thornton, Brett Climo, John Jarratt, Debra Lawrence, and Miriama Smith.

Each series comprises eight episodes and was created by Glenys Rowe and Phillip Gwynne, with filming taking place in Queensland.

Fans have been taking to social media in droves, heaping accolades on 'Darby and Joan', with many calling it "excellent" and a genuine "pleasure to watch".
