In recent years, Kate Scott (née Abdo) has cemented her reputation as one of the most respected and admired sports presenters on television. The 44-year-old will take centre stage on Monday (September 22) as host of the prestigious Ballon d'Or ceremony, a role that underlines her stature on both sides of the Atlantic.
Since 2020, she has fronted CBS Sports' acclaimed football coverage, becoming the face of UEFA Champions League Today alongside Jamie Carragher, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards. The show has drawn comparisons with Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday for its sharp analysis, infectious camaraderie and trademark banter.
Her career trajectory has been nothing short of remarkable. From her Manchester roots, she rose swiftly through the broadcasting ranks to become one of the leading figures in sports media, with a profile spanning both the US and the UK.

But who is the woman behind the microphone? Here, Mirror Football takes a closer look at Kate's career, personal life and off-camera stories - from her impressive net worth, to her celebrity marriage, and the much-discussed 'spat' she had with one of her closest colleagues.
Net worthWith two decades in the industry, Scott has built a career that's as impressive as her estimated £2million net worth. Her professional journey began in 2005 with an internship at Deutsche Welle, Germany's international broadcaster, where she quickly made her mark.
A year later, she secured a role as production assistant for Goal, the Bundesliga magazine, before moving on to present news and sports across Deutsche Welle's English and German channels until 2009. Her rising profile then caught the eye of CNN, where she anchored the network's World Sports programme.
Scott's next stop was Sky Sports Germany, where she became head anchor, before transferring to the UK team. There, she presented Sky Sports News, hosted major boxing pay-per-views, and delivered coverage of European football competitions.
Her versatility and popularity soon saw her tapped by Fox Sports, who brought her in for their 2015 Women's World Cup coverage. Not long after, she made the leap to the US full time, joining Fox as the lead presenter for its Champions League and Europa League broadcasts.
When Fox lost the rights, Scott switched to TNT before eventually signing with CBS Sports in 2020. Since then, she has hosted UEFA Champions League Today alongside Premier League icons Henry, Carragher and Richards - a role that has cemented her as one of the foremost football broadcasters on TV.
Boxer husbandLast year, Kate Scott married former heavyweight boxer Malik Scott in a lavish ceremony in Malibu Hills, California. True to her husband's boxing roots, the celebration featured a strikingly personal detail: a custom wedding cake that paid tribute to the sport he credits with "saving his life."
Malik later revealed just how deeply the gesture moved him. "Kate did something incredibly creative, caring and compassionate, reflecting the walk of life I come from," he said. The cake recreated the ring from his first ABC Gym in North Philadelphia - the place where, as a teenager, he found discipline and direction.
Inside the edible ring stood Malik in the trunks he wore against Tony Thompson, a design inspired by Sugar Ray Leonard but personalised in pink and black. Beside him, Kate was depicted in her wedding dress.
"The thoughtfulness and creativity moved me to tears," Malik recalled. "That ring meant the world to me. To see her place both of us inside it - me in my boxing gear, her in a wedding dress - was beautiful, thoughtful and loving."

Malik's own boxing story began at age 11, culminating in a Junior Olympic Championship title by 17. Turning professional in 2000, he compiled an impressive 38-3-1 record during a career that spanned 16 years and saw him share the ring with the likes of Derek Chisora and Deontay Wilder.
Though he never captured a world title, Scott earned wide respect for his technical skill, powerful punch, and resilience. Since retiring, he has turned to coaching - notably joining forces with Wilder in 2021 - and has since been in the corner for high-profile bouts against Tyson Fury, Robert Helenius, Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.
Carragher spatScott and Carragher share a strong bond on and off screen, but last year they made headlines for all the wrong reasons. During a CBS Sports broadcast, Carragher cracked a poorly judged joke about Kate's loyalty to her then-fiancé Malik - sparking an awkward on-air exchange that left both the panel and viewers uncomfortable.
The incident unfolded during coverage of Arsenal vs Porto in March 2024. At one point, former Manchester City star Richards slipped on an Arsenal shirt and encouraged Carragher to do the same. Instead, the Liverpool legend suggested Scott should wear it.
A lifelong Manchester United fan, she refused, saying: "No, I'm loyal. I'm loyal." Carragher pressed further, asking: "To who?" to which Scott replied firmly: "Manchester United, thank you very much."
What began as lighthearted banter quickly soured when Carragher followed up with a tongue-in-cheek remark about Malik. Taken aback, Kate shot back: "What? Why would you even say that," as Carragher tried to laugh it off.
The clip soon went viral, prompting Malik to warn he'd "show up in a physical manner" if Carragher crossed the line again. By the next day, however, the tension had eased. At the start of the following broadcast, Kate diffused the situation with her trademark humour.
"This group, we've been together now for three-and-a-half-years is it? And I grew up with a brother and doing this show I feel like I've gained three more here," she said, before playfully characterising each of her colleagues.
Henry was "the golden child who can do no wrong," Richards the "little bro - loud but loveable," and Carragher "the middle child... chip on his shoulder, capable of saying anything for attention. Does he go too far sometimes? Absolutely. Does he apologise? Yes, he does - but all of us have that one annoying family member that we still love and accept."
Malik later confirmed Carragher had apologised in person: "It was not something I lost any sleep over because I noticed the way Kate handled it was very, very well, and Jamie was just being Jamie and I have no problem with him," he said.
"You chop it up and apologise like men, which he did, and life goes on. I respect anyone who has a mishap and is man enough to apologise to the person and the person's partner. I felt no ill feelings when we met.
"The thing that Jamie said, Kate was hurt, but they all made up and handled it collectively at the time. I said my piece on it, but the real thing is, we all got together and looked into each other's eyes and had great food and great conversations.
"I never had a strong opinion about Jamie Carragher, only about the things that he said, but meeting him, I really enjoyed the man's company. I have the utmost respect for him, as well as the rest of the panel."
Carragher later admitted that he'd acted like "a little child" and that he'd been "put back in place" by Kate. "We never ignore the elephants in the room. I was a little child," he told The Ringer. "I was just getting a little smack and getting put back in place, and rightly so."
Earlier this year, Malik joined the CBS Sports panel and seized the chance to poke fun at Carragher. Midway through the broadcast, he unveiled a hoodie printed with the names of each pundit - except Carragher's, which had been cheekily crossed out.
The gag sent the studio into fits of laughter, a clear sign that any lingering tension had been left firmly in the past. "I had that hoodie and we just put a little flare onto it for the show. It was good. People loved it," Malik later told Spacesport Sweden.
"They came to me asking would I hop on the last segment. I didn't have the hoodie like that but by the time I got up there I had Jamie's name crossed out and they basically asked me what I had on so I opened the shirt and I said, 'I've got to get me another one because I basically crossed Jamie's name out on that'.
"That was a little get back at him from the beginning of the story, just the comment that he said about Kate. Then as the show went on they were asking me my favourite [on the panel].
"Of course, I'm going to say my wife. The one that I married is my favourite, Kate Scott. Then I said Micah. Then Jamie said, 'Who's next?' I looked at Jamie with a face and I said, 'Don't you do it, Jamie'. And then we all had a good laugh and it was just good."
