Man dies after being rescued by lifeguards from hotel swimming pool in Tenerife

A man has sadly died after being rescued from a hotel swimming pool in Tenerife.

On Friday September 5 emergency services were called to a hotel on Calle Londres in the Playa Fañabe area of Costa Adeje, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.

At around 11.39am the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 received an alert reporting that lifeguards at a hotel had rescued a swimmer from the pool who was in cardiac arrest and were performing resuscitation maneuvers.

A doctor and nurse from the Los Cristianos Health Center, a basic life support ambulance and local and national police were all dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival the crews found a 70-year-old man fighting for his life having been pulled from the pool.

Staff from the SUC (Uninstitutional Unit of the University of California) and the local health center continued performing advanced CPR maneuvers, successfully recovering the victim. Once stabilised, he was transferred in critical condition to the Los Cristianos Health Center.

Despite best efforts of hospital staff the man was confirmed dead shortly after arrival.

It comes after a British holidaymaker claimed she was turned away from three hospitals in Tenerife while suffering from a severe stomach bug because of where she was from.

Kay, a "militarywife" who shares posts about her travels on social media, described her "holiday from hell" in Spain. The traveller said she was mostly stuck in her room at a hotel in Tenerife when she started to feel her stomach hurting. Kay claimed her upset belly came after she ate a salad that had been "washed with tap water". The tourist opened up and shared details about her grim illness.

Her illness had become so extreme at one point that she called a doctor to her hotel room, which set her back €100. Kay claimed the doctor told her she could be admitted to hospital in two days if her condition stayed the same. In another video, Kay laterclaimed she was turned away from three hospitals in Tenerife because she was English.
