PM Narendra Modi has returned after a visit to five countries. His plane landed at Palam Airport on Thursday morning. PM Modi visited five countries, including Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia during his eight-day tour. He also attended the 17th BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
PM Narendra Modi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned home after completing his eight-day, five-nation visit from July 2 to 10. In this visit, the PM visited Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. This was his longest diplomatic visit in the last decade. The purpose of this visit was to strengthen India's relations with the Global South, promote trade, defense, energy, and technical cooperation, and strengthen India's position on multilateral forums like BRICS. This visit added a new chapter to India's global diplomacy and further strengthened India's global image under the leadership of PM Modi.
The PM's visit began on July 2 from Ghana, the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 30 years. Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama gave PM Modi a warm welcome, which included a 21-gun salute and children reciting Sanskrit shlokas. PM Modi was awarded Ghana's highest civilian honor, 'The Officer of the Star of Ghana'.
Trinidad and Tobago
On his visit to Trinidad and Tobago on July 3-4, PM Modi addressed the Parliament there and recalled the 180-year-old history of Indian immigrants. He addressed Trinidad Prime Minister Kamala Prasad-Bissessar as 'Bihar ki Beti' as her ancestors were from Buxar in Bihar. The PM presented the holy water of Maha Kumbh and a replica of the Ram temple. The announcement of giving OCI cards to Indian immigrants in Trinidad was made, which further strengthened cultural and mutual relations.
On July 4-5, PM Modi reached Argentina, which was the first bilateral visit of an Indian Prime Minister in 57 years. In talks with President Javier Miley, emphasis was laid on increasing cooperation on defense, agriculture, mining, and renewable energy. The PM paid tribute to Argentine freedom fighter Jose de San Martin and visited the Boca Juniors Stadium, which boosted cultural engagement between the two countries.
Brazil: BRICS and bilateral relations
PM Modi attended the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil on July 5-8, where issues such as global governance, peace, and climate change were discussed. The summit condemned the Pahalgam terror attack. In bilateral talks with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, an agreement was reached to promote cooperation in trade, defense, and health sectors. This was PM Modi's fourth visit to Brazil.
Namibia: The final leg
The final leg of the visit was in Namibia on July 9, which was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 27 years. PM Modi was awarded Namibia's highest honor, 'Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis'. He held talks with President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and addressed the Namibian Parliament, emphasizing on democracy and technological partnership.
