Fans of Call the Midwife can rejoice as a beloved character is set to make a comeback in the new series of the much-loved BBC show.

Followers of the programme have been receiving tantalising snippets via the official Instagram handle, offering insights into the production progress for new episodes that began filming last month.

A post unveiled on Wednesday, June 18, spilled the beans about the return of a familiar face from the drama.

The account excitedly shared: "Look who's on set this morning! It's Teddy Berriman and his mum Nicola. Teddy is back as Andrew Trottwood for a day of VERY warm filming!"

Andrew joined the show along with his television mother Jill (played by Joanna Horton) during Hope, the fourth episode of the 14th series, where it was discovered he had endured measles, hence demanding ample support, according to Digital Spy, reports Belfast Live.

Following withdrawal of council funds for an apt school for him, Jill faced the dilemma of locating a nearby alternative that proved non-existent. Moreover, they grappled with a persistently faulty home lift, necessitating carrying Andrew upstairs in his wheelchair.

The storyline unfolds with the infection of a wound, resulting in the Nonnatus House sisters stepping in to advocate with the local council for Andrew's return to his specialised educational setting.

He also formed friendships, and his mother Jill successfully encouraged numerous individuals to partake in a measles vaccination campaign.

The forthcoming Christmas special was recently disclosed to be set in both Hong Kong and Poplar, featuring Helen George's Trixie and others participating in Women's Liberation Movement marches.

In addition to Call the Midwife, Teddy has also starred in the Sky film A Christmas Number One alongside Game of Thrones' Iwan Rheon, as well as the children's programme Kit and Pup.

Call the Midwife returns at Christmas to BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
