broadcaster Vick Hope admitted she had to learn the hard way after taking "every job under the sun". The Newcastle-born presenter, 35, who now co-hosts the BBC Radio 1 drivetime show Going Home with Vick, Katie and Jamie, along with Katie Thistleton and Jamie Laing, joined in March. In a candid interview, the on-screen star said she likely experienced burnout when trying to make a name for herself during the start of her career and struggled to say "no" to jobs.
Vick, who is married to DJ Calvin Harris, recalled becoming so "overwhelmed" it resulted in physical symptoms with the presenter collapsing from exhaustion. "I didn't know the word 'no'. I think in 2018, I took three days off - including weekends - the whole year. I was getting up at 4am every day [for the Capital Breakfast show, alongside Roman Kemp]. I got to a point where I hadn't seen my family for so long," she told the .
Vick continued: "It was a matter of course that I cancelled family holidays, going up to Newcastle, missed weddings... because I had to work all the time."
The BBC presenter, who was around 27 at the time, realised she had "gone too far".
She said: "I remember collapsing. I was with my mum and I was like, wow, I don't think I can move. I don't know what's wrong with me. She was like, you've exhausted yourself. She asked, 'What are you chasing?'"
Nowadays, Vick is managing the balance of work and home life, taking more walks in nature and checking in with a therapist every couple of weeks.
It was announced earlier this year that the Radio 1 DJ and former Strictly star has joined the Countryfile lineup alongside regular presenters John Craven, Matt Baker, Anita Rani, Adam Henson, Hamza Yassin, Sean Fletcher, Sammi Kinghorn, Margherita Taylor, Charlotte Smith, Joe Crowley, Tom Heap and Datshiane Navanayagam.
"I am delighted to be joining the Countryfile team - spending time in nature has always been hugely important to me so the chance to learn ever more about the world around us from such beautifully diverse perspectives and such a passionate mix of people who live and breathe country life across the UK will be so special and enriching," she said.
Countryfile airs tonight on BBC One at 7pm
