Foreign Office issues urgent advice for popular European country as 'disruption' likely

The Foreign Office has issued an urgent travel advice for all the British tourists travelling to a popular European destination as there are chances of "disruption". French unions are set to hold a number of strike protests on October 2 to pressurise the new Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu over their demands to scrap his predecessor's austerity fiscal programme.

Union leaders who met with Lecornu on Wednesday said they were not satisfied by his response to their last day of protest, attended by hundreds of thousands of people on September 18, reports France 24. According to the union leaders, the Prime Minister did not make any "clear commitment" in their previous meeting.

In an update issued on Tuesday (September 30), the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) stated: "Calls for strike action and demonstrations across France on Thursday 2 October may cause disruption to travel. Monitor local news and check for messaging from your travel provider about any potential delays."

Regarding industrial action in France in general, the Foreign Office says: "There can be frequent industrial action across France. This can lead to disruption and delays on roads and public transport.

"If you are due to travel to or within France, monitor the media, check your operator's advice and follow the advice of the authorities."

Apart from this, travellers are also being advised to prepare for significant disruption between October 7 and 10 due to a planned strike by French air traffic controllers.

Originally scheduled for September, the strike was postponed following the collapse of the French government, but has now been rescheduled.

The impact will extend beyond flights to and from France, affecting anyone flying through French airspace en route to other European destinations.
