This is the moment Volodymyr Zelensky got the last laugh over the journalist who sparked an international row over his choice of clothing at the pair's previous White House meeting in February. Brian Glenn, Chief White House Correspondent for Real America's Voice, quizzed the Ukrainian president at the previous press conference in February on his refusal to wear a suit.
However, Zelensky decided against his usual combat gear today (Monday, August 18) as he arrived at the White House for more crucial peace talks, instead opting for an all-black suit which Trump praised as "fabulous". Zelensky was then involved in a light-hearted encounter with Glenn during the latest press conference.
Glenn said: "President Zelensky, you look fabulous in that suit. You look good."
Trump then turned to Zelensky and pointed at Glenn, adding: "I said the same thing, and this is the one that attacked you last time."
The President of Ukraine then said: "I remember that. You are in the same suit. You see I changed mine!"
The witty reply was met with laughter before Glenn replied: "Maybe yours is much better than mine."
Zelensky has often been seen wearing combat clothes since Ukraine was invaded by Russia at the start of 2022. He has visited both Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street without a suit.
Glenn previously asked him: "Why don't you wear a suit? You're the highest level in this country's office and you refuse to wear a suit."
After Vice President J.D. Vance sniggered on the Oval Office sofa, he continued: "I just want to see - do you own a suit?" Zelensky simply responded: "Problems?"
The journalist continued: "Yes, a lot of Americans have a problems with you not respecting this office."
However, Zelensky hit back: "I will wear (a) costume after this war will finish. Maybe something like yours, maybe something better., I don't know. We will see. Maybe something cheaper."
Trump said later in the Oval Office that he "liked" his clothing. Zelensky simply responded: "Oh really?"
