in May 2023 saw millions of people tune in to catch a glimpse of the magnificent spectacle. It was an historic day oozing with pomp and pageantry.

Despite the proceedings seeming perfect to the outside viewer, a tiny hiccup in timings led to a major blunder leaving the King frustrated.

Timings for royal events are key, with every moment planned down to the last second. A disruption of what may just seem like a few minutes can have a huge knock on effect to the day.

were slightly late leaving for the service, and it had repercussions that affected the King and Queen.

The royal couple and their two younger children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, were a minute and a half behind schedule, according to Robert Hardman, author of Charles III: New King, New Court.

The Waleses had reportedly been due to arrive eight minutes before Charles and Camilla, but due to the slight delay, they were now set to arrive after them.

This resulted in the new King and Queen having to wait outside of Westminster Abbey in their carriages - not a very regal act.

A camera was filming Charles showing him speaking about his frustrations. A lip reader translated him saying: "We can never be on time... There's always something... This is boring."

The royal author, Hardman, reports that there were conflicting stories after the coronation to what had actually happened.

Some people believe that William, Kate and their kids were reasonably late due to the Prince and Princess of Wales wanting to make a memorable coronation day video.

However, others have reported that the King's car was in fact early, meaning the car carrying his son and family were caught up behind his procession when they should have been ahead.

Robert Hardman wrote in his book: "It is unusual for the two most important arrivals at such a significant event, and over such a well-trodden route, to be so unpunctual.

"The result is some frantic rewriting of the running order. There isn't time for the Waleses and their two younger children to enter ahead of the King and Queen. They must now follow behind and bring up the rear."
