A home cook has shared a steak recipe that people say is so tender, it can be cut with a butter knife, and it all comes down to one simple thing you do hours before cooking. Posted under the username 'Kittencal' on Food.com, the recipe is called 'Extreme Melt-In-Your-Mouth Steaks' and has earned a perfect five-star rating from 25 reviews.
Dozens of users said the results were amazing, with one calling it "extremely delicious, fork tender and easy to prepare", and another saying it will now be their "only marinade from now on". As you can probably already tell, the secret is a rich, savoury marinade packed with herbs, spices and sauces, and it needs to be done at least six hours in advance.
The creator explained: "Not only are these the most delicious steaks, they are so tender you can slice them with a butter knife.
"Plan ahead - the steaks need to marinate for 6 to 24 hours and must be brought down to room temperature before cooking, which may take a couple of hours."
One reviewer said they used the marinade and pan-fried their steaks instead of grilling.
"It worked out great - no burning sauce sticking into the pan, because there is no sugar," they wrote.
Another added: "This adds a great flavour to steak. I was afraid it was going to be too spicy but it wasn't."
The recipe works with any steak, but Kittencal prefers rib-eyes. The key is to prick holes in the meat before marinating so the flavours soak in fully.
One person wrote: "Our Cowboy Rib-Eyes were good. Everyone liked the taste. Thank you again for a great recipe."
Another person added: "The steaks were so tender you could cut them with a butter knife. On top of that, the marinade tastes divine. Highly recommend trying the recipe."
