icon Graham Roberts has recommended two summer transfer targets and informed chairman Daniel Levy that another striker needs to be brought in. Spurs have spent a combined £112.5million on Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson in recent years, but may need to fork out for additional attacking reinforcements.

That is still with Mathys Tel's future up in the air. Spurs could make his loan from permanent for £45m, something previously described as a near-certainty, but .

Roberts believes that there is too much pressure on Solanke as the only out-and-out number nine at the club.

"I don't think we need to spend a lot of money," Roberts told Express Sport with . "I think we need another striker and a creative midfield player would be good. We have got cover for everywhere else on the pitch so we are not looking to spend hundreds of millions of pounds.

"We do need another striker because there is too much pressure. If Solanke gets injured we are playing Son through the middle or a midfielder, you need to have two top, top strikers."

He then joked: ", let's get him back! He would be brilliant."

Roberts, who won the UEFA Cup in 1984 with Spurs in addition to back-to-back successes in 1981 and 1982, also felt that a double raid on for £100m-rated Adam Wharton and £60m Eberechi Eze would be welcomed.

When asked about specific incomings, he replied: "I like Eze at Crystal Palace, I think he is really, really good. I think Wharton is really, really good."

Palace were willing to let the likes of Michael Olise and Joachim Anderson leave last summer and are set for another few months of speculation surrounding their key men.

But despite Spurs' lowly 14th-placed position in the table, Roberts is largely happy with the squad. He does think that more leadership is required in addition to Cristian Romero and , however.

"You need more character because I think Romero is the right captain," Roberts added. "But you read in the papers that . So how can you make him captain if he wants to leave the football club?

"If you go through player by player who we have got, when our best team is out on the pitch, we are as good as any team in the league. Who do you replace? Goalkeeper? I think he (Guglielmo Vicario) has had a half-decent season, average.

"Right-back, (Pedro) Porro, you have got Djed Spence who can play there. We have got two players nearly for every position and they are good players, but it is just getting them on the pitch at the same time."
