Bumbling faced an awkward moment as he bungled the opening of a truck door and nearly toppled over in an embarrassing video clip from
The 78-year-old former president, who has recently been intensifying his provocative language by using terms like 'scum' while seemingly struggling to keep his rally audiences from falling asleep, made quite the entrance at his Green Bay event last night when he showed up in a garbage truck.
"250 million people are not garbage. I can tell you who the real garbage is but I won't say that," stated Trump to reporters waiting on the tarmac upon his arrival in Wisconsin, donning a luminous orange high-visibility vest. He then lurched towards the vehicle, completely missing the door handle and almost taking a tumble.
Struggling to regain his balance, Trump was unable to grasp the handle properly, and after eventually swinging the door open, he required assistance to board the truck. This incident has sparked concern online over Trump's physical well-being.
Online reactions were swift and merciless. One confused viewer tweeted after seeing a clip: "Did he miss the door that was RIGHT infront of him?? Is everything okay with him?" Another chimed in: "Trump misses the door handle twice and then almost falls over. Retweet widely," calling for widespread sharing of the gaffe.
A third commenter humorously remarked: "Donald Trump can't open a door without stumbling. This is elder abuse."
The rally, which he arrived at belatedly, featured an explanation from Trump stating that the outlandish garbage truck idea was a spur-of-the-moment suggestion by his advisors, proposed just half an hour before touchdown, reports
Trump told reporters: "I said I think it's ok but I don't feel comfortable wearing a suit...then they said, 'Sir we have a vest.' I said, 'Should I leave my suit on and put it over the vest? But that doesn't look very good'."
Trump continued to describe his apprehension about climbing into such a high passenger seat, but was delighted to see a "beautiful" driver who resembled Cary Grant. He told his audience: "I said, 'Man this is bad as all the cameras are on me. I said, 'Oh man, if I don't get up there this will be very embarrassing."
Trump even admitted that people might accuse him of being "cognitively and physically impaired."
This spectacle followed Biden's response to recent remarks made at a Trump rally in Madison Square Garden, where a comedian joked that Puerto Rico is a "floating island of garbage."
"The only garbage I see floating out there is his [Trump's] supporters," the president retorted during a Zoom call.
In retaliation, Trump labelled Biden's reference to his supporters as a "disgrace."
He queried: "How do you like my garbage truck? This truck is in honour of Kamala and Joe Biden."
