Joe Root has been in the form of his life. The English batter has emerged as one of the most consistent run scorers in Test cricket in recent times. Root made headlines with his valiant 262 runs against Pakistan in the first Test which ensured a hefty victory for the Three Lions in Multan. He further strengthened his place at the top of the ICC Test rankings as he extended his lead with a whopping 932 points. Root has surpassed his previous best of 923 rating points and in the proceedings he has entered an elite list which also has the likes of Virat Kohli, Sir Don Bradman and Ricky Ponting. Root has invaded ICC’s top 20 highest rating list as he is now placed 17th just behind former Pakistan batter Mohammad Yousuf. Don Bradman still holds the record of registering the highest rating of all time with 961 points while another Australian Steve Smith is in the 2nd position with 947 points.Root’s Indian contemporary Virat Kohli is 12th on the list. Since Root’s debut only Smith, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Marnus Labuschagne have been able to better his rating points so far.Harry Brook’s excellent triple century saw him rising 11 places to second position but he still will have to bridge a massive gap as he is 11 points adrift of Root at the top. Root failed to replicate his magic in the second Test as he was dismissed for 1 paltry 34 by Sajid Khan.At the end of the second day, England are trailing by 127 runs and Pakistan could sniff a rare victory if their bowlers can capitalise the opportunity. England are fourth in the current World Test Championship table and they currently lead the three match Test series 1-0.
