COIMBATORE: An unidentified person sent a bomb threat email to the South Indian Bank ’s Sungam branch in Coimbatore city on Tuesday morning. The bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) of Coimbatore city police launched a search and declared that it was a hoax bomb threat .
Police sources said the South Indian Bank’s headquarters in Chennai received a bomb threat email from a stranger around 10.15am on Tuesday.
The email sender claimed that he had planted a bomb at the bank’s Sungam branch. The message was conveyed to Sungam branch officials, who alerted the Race Course police and the BDDS.
A BDDS team led by special sub-inspector Janarthanan and a sniffer dog squad reached the spot. They carried out a thorough search at the bank branch before declared it was a hoax bomb threat.
The Race Course police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act.
