COIMBATORE: The windshield of a doctor’s luxury car was broken when a large piece of concrete fell on it from the elevated corridor on the Avinashi Road in the city on Friday evening.

The incident happened around 6pm when Dr Mathew Cherian, head of the department of radiology at Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH), was driving his Audi E-tron -- worth more than Rs 1 crore -- to his residence located on the Nanjundapuram Road. The car was moving in the stretch between Hope College and Fun Mall junction when the heavy object fell on its windshield from the under construction elevated corridor.

The doctor didn’t stop the car as he did not want to cause a traffic obstruction in the busy stretch during the peak hour.

The windshield of the car costs around Rs 1 lakh, and the doctor decided to lodge a complaint with the state highways department and the city police.

It was the second such incident reported within four months. On Dec 2, 2024, the windshield of a car was damaged when a concrete piece fell on it from the elevated corridor near Hope College.

These incidents raised concerns about the safety of motorists.
