COIMBATORE: Basic infrastructure work at the Arignar Anna Co-operative Industrial Estate in Kittampalayam in Sulur taluk will be completed by June, according to officials in the district industries centre.
The estate members acquired 316.04 acres in 2006, including 35.4 acres in Thekkalur village in Tirupur district and 280.64 acres in Coimbatore district, to develop an industrial estate for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). However, the project saw little progress until it was revived in 2021.
"Basic infrastructure such as roads, water pipelines, two overhead tanks with a capacity of one lakh litres each and an office building have been developed at a total cost of ₹24.61 crore," said Suganthi, an industrial cooperative officer for the Arignar Anna Co-operative Industrial Estate.
"Of the total funding, the govt has allocated ₹12.30 crore, while the remaining amount is being contributed by the stakeholders. The remaining basic facilities will be completed in another 40 days," she added.
Four plot sizes are available -- 15 cents, 30 cents, 45 cents and 90 cents. Of the 585 plots in the estate, five industries have already been established over the past two years. Another 15 are at various stages of approval and construction.
Once fully operational, the estate was expected to provide direct employment to around 5,000 people, she said.
