Kota: A 10-year-old boy drowned in a vacant, water-filled plot near Dakaniya railway station in Kota Saturday afternoon. The deceased, Taamil Hussain, son of Shakir Hussain from Indra Colony, slipped into the deep water while playing with his cousin sister around 2 pm.
According to police, the plot, which had been excavated around a year ago, was approximately 25 feet deep and lacked proper boundary protection. As Taamil ventured near the deteriorated boundary wall, he fell into the stagnant, dirty water. His cousin quickly ran home to alert the family, who rushed to the scene but were unable to save him.
The family called for a rescue squad from the Kota Municipal Corporation, who arrived promptly and retrieved the boy from a depth of about 22 feet. "The plot was filled with murky, dirty water, and the boy was trapped in the muddy waste," said Vishnu Shringi, a member of the diver squad.
Despite efforts to revive Taamil with CPR, he was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.
The boy's family has blamed the plot owner for the tragic incident, citing the neglect of the site since its excavation. "The plot has been in this dangerous condition for over a year, with no proper boundary wall or safety measures in place," they said.
Vigyan Nagar circle inspector Mukesh Meena said a case would be registered based on the family's complaint. The boy's body was later handed over to the family after a post-mortem.
