Mangaluru: Deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar insisted that a sense of brotherhood should be fostered among the people in the coastal area. "Through developmental works, let us create history once again in the coastal area. The people of the region are talented and intelligent. We need to create an environment for them to work here," Shivakumar said.

At the silver jubilee celebrations of the Navodaya Grama Vikas Charitable Trust and Navodaya Self-Help Groups on Saturday, he said, "Efforts may fail, but prayers never do. I am always happy to come to the coastal area to offer prayers. This region is a powerhouse with places like Kateel, Dharmasthala, and Subrahmanya. There is no lack here; progress was made in education, religion, and all sectors. In the state, loans are being repaid most diligently in banks and cooperative societies in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. I have immense trust and belief in this district. The people here are more intelligent and educated. This is the district that has given the most educated people and the most banks in the country. You must preserve this legacy," he said.

The talented people of this region are going abroad for jobs. Educated youth are the strength of the nation, Shivakumar said, adding that he urged all his MLA friends to strive to create opportunities for them to work here after acquiring their education. "Peace must prevail on this land. People of all religions should live in brotherhood. Let us all unite to preserve the heritage and history of this district and uphold its honour. Let us develop this coast and make it a part of history. Let us work for the future of this state," he urged.

On the Navodaya Grama Vikas Charitable Trust, Shivakumar said, "Twenty-five years ago, when I was the cooperative minister in SM Krishna's cabinet, I initiated this programme. The lamp lit, then brought light into the lives of millions of women and continues to burn. I started my political career in the cooperative sector. Later, I contested elections, became an MLA, a cooperative minister, and now stand before you as the deputy chief minister."

Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot emphasised the significant impact of empowering women in society. He noted that when women are financially independent, it enhances household economic stability and contributes to the nation's development. In the current digital era, he stressed that proficiency in digital technology holds equal importance as financial independence. He called for united efforts to achieve the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Assembly speaker UT Khader said a hate-free and addiction-free society is essential to make India a global superpower.
