Ranchi: BJP has pitched the upcoming assembly polls as a fight for upholding the rights of the state’s ‘Roti, Mati and Beti’, while JMM announced that for them, it is a fight to protect ‘Jharkhand Asmita’.

For the first time since the election dates were announced and the model code of conduct set in earlier this week, chief minister Hemant Soren took to social media on Wednesday and appealed to the electorate to unite and collectively defeat the BJP’s “lies, money power, divisive politics and conspiracies”.

His wife and outgoing Gandey MLA Kalpana Murmu Soren, in a video message on X, said: “This election is a fight to save Jharkhand and Jharkhandiyat. When Hemant Ji was arrested, we gave the slogan that Jharkhand Jhukega Nahi (Jharkhand will not bow down). Now, it is not just a slogan. It has become a resolution for the people of the state.”

Hemant’s social media post came on a day he completed 100 days in office after he was released on bail in a land scam case. He took oath of office on July 4 after his predecessor Champai Soren stepped down.

Accusing BJP of looting the state for two decades, Soren listed the key achievements and initiatives taken during his two tenures as the CM from 2020 to 2024. He highlighted his govt’s efforts to bring back stranded migrant workers during lockdown and claimed that his govt’s initiatives helped the state’s womenfolk get dignity and self respect.

“When I raised my voice for Jharkhand's outstanding dues of Rs 1.36 lakh crore, I was imprisoned. My only crime was serving the people of Jharkhand and granting them their rights. If this is a crime, I will continue to commit it repeatedly. Jharkhand has never bowed down to anyone and will never be allowed to do so,” he said.
