Emma Mackey will be tapping into her wicked side as she steps into the world of Narnia as the White Witch.

The actress who last appeared in the film 'Barbie', has reportedly been cast in the upcoming film adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia, helmed by director Greta Gerwig. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the film, which will focus on The Magician’s Nephew, the sixth book in CS Lewis’ beloved series, will see Mackey take on the iconic role of the White Witch, the central antagonist who famously plunged Narnia into a never-ending winter in 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'.

According to the report, this marks the first official casting announcement for the highly anticipated Netflix production. While the film has been surrounded by casting speculation, including rumours of Charli XCX and Margaret Qualley being eyed for the villain's role, Mackey ultimately secured the part.

Oscar-winner Meryl Streep is also reportedly attached to the project in an undisclosed role, while Daniel Craig is said to have been offered a part as well. Though no confirmations have been made, the buzz is that Meryl may just voice Aslan, the lion, however, that detail is still up for debate.

An official release date has now been set for Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2026. It will run in cinemas for two weeks before arriving on Netflix on Christmas Day.
