New Delhi: Vipraj Nigam ’s meteoric rise has captured the imagination. From the bustling town of Barabanki , Uttar Pradesh, Vipraj grew up like countless other boys in small-town India, with a bat in his hand and a dream in his heart.
Initially, the 20-year-old Nigam was known more for his batting prowess. But it was his decision to add leg-spin to his arsenal that would change the trajectory of his career. His breakthrough came in the 2024 UP T20 League , in which he represented Lucknow Falcons and announced himself with 20 wickets in just 12 matches.

By the 2024-25 domestic season, Nigam had debuted for UP in all three formats, making an immediate impact in the Ranji Trophy with a four-wicket haul on debut. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy that season was his statement of intent.
At the IPL-2025 auction, Delhi Capitals snapped him up for Rs 50 lakh. Nigam’s debut was no quiet affair. Against LSG in Vizag, Vipraj announced himself with a blazing 39 off 15 balls. His leg-spin — thoughtful and deceptive — has offered crucial breakthroughs.
Nigam has nine wickets in 10 games and has also scored 104 runs at a blistering strike-rate of 203.92, often coming in with the team under pressure. On Tuesday, his 38 off 19 balls against KKR nearly pulled off a miraculous chase.
“IPL is a journey where you always face ups and downs. But the main thing is how strong your mindset is, how the team atmosphere is. The seniors have always supported me. That gives you the confidence to do everything,” Nigam said.
