PGA tournament disrupted as s*x toy epidemic spreads from recent WNBA games to golf's most traditional stage

The PGA Tour ’s season-ending championship in Atlanta briefly lost its air of tradition when a green s*x toy landed near the 18th green, making golf the latest sport caught in the bizarre trend that started in the WNBA and recently spilled into the NFL . While Tommy Fleetwood secured a career-defining victory and $10 million prize at East Lake Golf Club , the unexpected object momentarily stole the spotlight.

Green s*x toy lands on PGA tournament after WNBA chaos

The disruption came just as Tommy Fleetwood prepared for his final putt. Spectators on site were stunned when the neon object skidded to the edge of the green before a quick-footed security guard kicked it into a bunker. Fleetwood and Patrick Cantlay stayed focused, but the surreal moment again proved how widespread the prank has become.

The craze began weeks earlier in the WNBA, where fans hurled brightly colored dildos onto courts during multiple games. One incident even struck Indiana Fever forward Sophie Cunningham, prompting swift arrests and lifetime bans for several offenders. Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve strongly condemned the behavior, saying:

"I just want to comment on... this has been going on for centuries. The sexualization of women, this is the latest version of that. It's not funny."

She added, "The s*xualization of women is what's used to hold women down and this is no different. We're not the butt of the joke. They're the problem, and we need to take action."

The backlash did not deter imitators. Hours after Reeve’s comments, two more objects were thrown during a Chicago Sky vs. Atlanta Dream matchup. Not long after, the NFL became involved when a similar toy was spotted near the six-yard line in a Tennessee Titans preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Who’s responsible for the s*x toy epidemic?

What seemed like random fan mischief now appears linked to a cryptocurrency group promoting a so-called “Green Dildo Coin.” The group admitted to staging some of the stunts to draw attention to its meme coin, claiming the goal was to create viral moments rather than disrespect athletes. Yet players and coaches across sports disagree, pointing to safety risks and the mockery of competition.

Chicago Sky center Elizabeth Williams said bluntly, “It’s super disrespectful. It’s really immature. Whoever is doing it needs to grow up.”

Despite the outrage, the group has teased “lighter” versions of the prank in other arenas, raising concerns that more leagues could face similar interruptions.

Fleetwood’s victory will be remembered as a major breakthrough in his career. Still, the image of a security guard booting a bright green s*x toy into a bunker may endure just as vividly. With the WNBA, NFL, and now PGA all impacted, the “s*x toy epidemic” has quickly become one of the strangest cross-sport stories in recent sports history.
