Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai presented an optimistic outlook for the company's performance, highlighting the significant role of artificial intelligence (AI) and strategic investments in driving growth. During the company's first-quarter 2025 earnings call on Thursday, Pichai emphasised the “strong results” achieved, attributing the positive momentum to robust performances in key sectors including Search, Cloud and YouTube. During the call, Pichai delved out some numbers in the last quarter.

Starting with Google's AI Overviews, Pichai said that the feature is being used by over 1.5 billion users every month. Pichai said that the company has surpassed 270 million paid subscriptions across YouTube and Google One. He noted that all 15 of Google's products with at least half a billion users now utilise Gemini models . As per the CEO, Circle to Search is available on more than 250 million devices and usage of Circle to Search increased nearly 40% this quarter. YouTube celebrated its 20th anniversary yesterday and has been number one in streaming watch time in the US for the last two years, according to Nielsen. Pichai reiterated YouTube CEO Neil Mohan’s message saying that YouTube now has over 1 billion monthly active podcast users. YouTube Music and Premium have reached over 125 million subscribers globally, including trials. Waymo is now safely serving over a quarter of a million paid passenger trips each week, Pichai said, adding the paid passenger trips have increased 5x from a year ago. Monthly visual searches with Lens have increased by 5 billion since October, Vertex AI Platform offers customers access to over 200 foundation models and Google Workspace delivers more than 2 billion AI assists monthly. He added that Google's global network is supported by over 2 million miles of fiber and the company’s global network also includes 33 subsea cables. Talking about the recently-launched Ironwood, Google's seventh-generation TPU, Pichai said the chip offers more than 10x improvement in compute power compared to a recent high-performance TPU. Ironwood also demonstrates nearly twice the power efficiency of a recent high-performance TPU. He noted that Gemma models have been downloaded more than 140 million times.
