India’s real-money gaming sector has been hit hard after Parliament cleared the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025. The new law places a blanket ban on real-money games, hitting a sector that attracted more than $1 billion in funding between 2020 and 2022. Major players including Dream11 , MPL , PokerBaazi , My11Circle , Zupee , WinZO, and Probo have announced suspension of their real-money formats. The big question for users now is — what will happen to the money already in their gaming wallets after the new law? While no new deposits will be allowed, companies have assured users that their wallet balances remain safe and withdrawals will continue without disruption. Here’s everything you need to know about it
What happens to wallet money of PokerBaazi, MPL and Zupee
Most companies have confirmed that players’ funds are secure. MPL, Games24x7 (operator of My11Circle), PokerBaazi, and Zupee said withdrawals can be made smoothly, even though fresh deposits are blocked. WinZO said it will remove affected offerings from August 22, while Probo has already discontinued all money-related formats.
Dream11 prepares shutdown
Dream11, India’s largest fantasy sports operator, is preparing to close its real-money business. As per a CNBC report, CEO Harsh Jain told employees there was “no legal pathway to continue operations once the law takes effect.” Staff have been briefed on transition plans as parent firm Dream Sports shifts focus to FanCode, DreamSetGo, and Dream Game Studios.
PokerBaazi, MPL, My11Circle announce compliance
PokerBaazi, on the other hand, said it has paused operations “with a very heavy heart” in line with the law. MPL has also stopped real-money formats and assured users that withdrawals are seamless. Games24x7 confirmed that no new cash deposits will be accepted, though withdrawals will be processed without hassle.
Zupee, WinZO and Probo follow suit
Zupee said it will continue with free-to-play titles like Ludo Supreme, while discontinuing paid contests. WinZO, backed by Griffin Gaming Partners, announced it will withdraw affected games by August 22 but pledged support for developers. Probo confirmed a full exit from money-linked offerings.
