SRINAGAR : BJP is set to hold Thursday a Tiranga Yatra in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk to celebrate Operation Sindoor . The rally will begin at Sher-e-Kashmir Park and conclude at Lal Chowk, a symbolic location long associated with nationalist displays, especially following the 2019 abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of J&K into two Union territories.
“India has brought Pakistan to its knees, and we are celebrating that tomorrow,” said BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur on social media. “This rally is a tribute to Army and security forces for dismantling terror hubs in Pakistan and demonstrating India’s strength to enemies.”
Thakur urged BJP workers and residents to join what he called a patriotic march . “We invite every nationalist to participate and send a message of victory to the entire nation,” he said.
BJP’s Ajaz Hussain also called on people to join Thursday’s rally to show love for the country.
Lal Chowk holds political and symbolic importance for BJP. In 1991, Murli Manohar Joshi hoisted the national flag there, accompanied by Narendra Modi, then a party worker. Since 2019, BJP has redeveloped the area under smart city project and held multiple flag-hoisting events. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also hoisted the flag at Lal Chowk during his Bharat Jodo Yatra.
On Wednesday, Muslim Rashtriya Manch held a Bharat Yatra at Lal Chowk, with members shouting anti-Pakistan slogans. Party patron Indresh Kumar had flagged off the march from New Delhi, led by Abu Bakr Naqvi.
