NEW DELHI: The Congress Saturday released its second list of 23 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections set for November 10. This release follows a meeting of the party's Central Election Committee, where candidates for the polls were reviewed.
The Congress had already announced 48 candidates in its initial list, bringing the total to 71 with this new set. The first list included 25 incumbent MLAs who have been retained as nominees.
The Congress also ruled out any internal conflicts within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, and the finalised seat-sharing arrangement among the coalition members.
Following the CEC meeting on Friday, Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala informed that discussions were held regarding the remaining seats in Maharashtra. "The MVA is contesting unitedly and we have no differences," Chennithala, who is the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Maharashtra, said.
"We will fight together to realise the dreams of the people of Maharashtra. We are confident that MVA will form the government. People are ready to throw out this corrupt government," Chennithala added.
PCC chief Nana Patole exuded confidence that MVA will perform better in the Assembly polls than in the Lok Sabha polls, and the will form a full majority government after the assembly elections.
"We, the MVA, are all set to sweep the upcoming assembly elections," Venugopal said.
On Thursday, the Congress released its initial list of 48 candidates for the Maharashtra elections. The list includes Patole for Sakoli, former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan for Karad South, and the outgoing Assembly's Leader of Opposition, Vijay Wadettiwar, for Brahmapuri.
