Language row: RSS supports regional language; says primary education should be disseminated in mother tongue that people speak at home

NEW DELHI: Amid the language row, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Monday said that primary education should be disseminated in the language that people speak in their places.

After Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu rolled back the three-language policy , the RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh, Sunil Ambekar said, "Sangh has always had the stand that all languages of India are national languages. People speak their languages in their own places. Primary education should be disseminated in the same language, this is what everyone has been requesting. This is already established."

The language row started after the Three-Language Policy, as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, has been introduced which mandates that students learn three languages during their school education. It emphasizes promoting multilingualism and aims to balance national unity with regional diversity. The policy allows states and institutions flexibility in choosing which languages to include, with the core principle that at least two of the three languages should be native to India.

Meanwhile, the RSS also answered on the Manipur issue and said that when the situation deteriorates somewhere, it doesn't improve within a day. But if compared to last year, normalcy has started setting in.

"It is the beginning of peace. Dialogues are being held on both sides, so a path will come out of it," he said.
