Uttarakhand’s economy has made a remarkable leap, in its 24 years of development journey. Today, the size of the economy has grown 24 times and similarly the per capita income has increased by 17 times, clearly reflecting Uttarakhand’s accelerating development pace.

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, said “Our performance on the economic front has been encouraging. The per capita income in the state has increased 17 times. We have set a goal to double the state’s GSDP in the next five years. We are steadily progressing in this direction.”

Dhami also thanked PM Narendra Modi for his leadership which helped the state attain new heights of development.

“In the 24 years since the formation of Uttarakhand, the state has reached new heights of development. The period under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been particularly significant in this development journey. During this time, new doors of progress have opened for Uttarakhand.”

Despite facing numerous challenges over the past two decades and ten months, this hilly state’s spirit has remained unshaken, thanks to the resilience of the people who ensured that development never takes a backseat.

Today, the state’s economy (GSDP) is continuously improving reflecting its prosperity.

Almost 24 years back, in 2000, during the state’s formation the size of the economy stood at Rs 14,501 crore, which has now reached Rs 3,46,000 crore in 2023-24. This growth has been largely driven by the tourism sector. Two years ago, tourism accounted for 37 per cent of the GSDP, and that contribution has now risen to 43.7 per cent.

Similarly, per capita income has also risen to Rs 2.60 lakh against Rs 15,285 in 2000. Over the last two years alone, per capita income has increased by 26 per cent.

With the accelerating pace of development, Uttarakhand’s budget has also increased by 20 times since its formation. In 2020, the allocated budget was around Rs 4,500 crore which surpassed Rs 94,000 crore for the year 2024-25. This included Rs 89,230.07 crore for the general budget and Rs 5,013.05 crore for the supplementary budget.

Talking about revenue, CM Dhami informed that effective measures have been implemented to boost revenue and because of the collective efforts of people and administration, this objective would be fulfilled.

He said, “Effective steps have been taken to increase revenue, and many departments of the state government, which were running at a loss, are now in a position to generate profits. I am confident that with the efforts of the divine people of the state and the administration, we will successfully achieve this goal.”
