A fast-moving brush fire dubbed the Wolf fire is tearing through Southern California, scorching over 1,100 acres and forcing evacuations as dry, windy weather fuels its rapid spread, fire officials said.
The blaze, labelled the Wolf fire, was first reported around 3 pm on Sunday afternoon (local time) near Wolfskill Truck Trail and Old Banning Idyllwild Road, the Riverside County Fire Department confirmed, as quoted by ABC News.
Evacuation orders have been issued for areas north of Poppet Flat Divide Truck Trail, south of Interstate 10, east of Highland Springs Avenue, and west of Old Cabazon Road. The fire is also affecting Highway 243, which leads to the mountain community of Idyllwild.
The Wolf fire is one of several brush fires currently burning in the region, including incidents in both San Bernardino and Riverside counties. In total, five fires are active across the Inland Empire, according to Cal Fire.
These outbreaks come amid hot, dry conditions and strong winds, which have triggered red flag warnings across the region.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
