Bantwal: The mystery behind the deaths of a married couple at Badagundi Kilthodi in Navooru village might never be fully known, as there are no surviving witnesses in the household.
The bodies of Thimmappa Moolya and his pregnant wife, Jayanti, were found under suspicious circumstances on Thursday, June 19. It is believed that Thimmappa killed his pregnant wife before taking his own life.
While many speculate on possible reasons for the couple’s argument, there is no definitive explanation as to why Thimmappa Moolya killed Jayanti. Since the accused himself has also died, police too can only consider the possibility of a petty dispute escalating into murder, but deeper details are likely to remain unknown.
After nearly 16 years of marriage, Thimmappa and Jayanti were finally expecting their first child. It is hard to imagine the number of doctors they may have consulted and prayers they may have offered for this pregnancy. The couple was just months away from seeing their baby’s face when this tragic and unexpected incident took place.
Though police have suggested a minor dispute as the cause, debates continue over whether Thimmappa intentionally killed his wife or if Jayanti, who was heavily pregnant, died as a result of injuries during a domestic altercation.
Preliminary suspicions suggest she may have been smothered by pressing her head into a pillow. To eliminate doubts, the police conducted a post-mortem at Deralakatte hospital, and findings from the report are expected to shed light on the exact cause of death.
