Shivamogga: Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the desecration of deity idols at a temple garden located in the Bangarappa Layout of Raghigudda in Shivamogga.
The accused have been identified as Syed Ahmad (32) of Sheshadripuram and Rehmatulla (50) of Bapuji Nagar. According to the police, the idols were placed in a small temple situated in the front yard of a house. Among them, the Vasuki idol was reportedly thrown into a nearby drain.
A complaint was filed alleging that the act of questioning the desecration led to caste-based abuse. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested the accused.
Former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa condemned the incident, stating:
“The government must ensure strict punishment for those who desecrate deities. Criminal cases should be filed immediately, and the culprits must face the consequences of their actions.”
The case has sparked local outrage, and authorities have promised thorough investigation and action in accordance with the law.
