Global auto giant Stellantis is gearing up to bring the Leapmotor electric vehicle lineup to Indian roads. With an already established presence through the Jeep and Citroen brands, Stellantis is now preparing to widen its EV portfolio in one of the world’s fastest-evolving auto markets.
Leapmotor , a Chinese EV brand and Stellantis’ joint venture partner, recorded global deliveries of nearly 3,00,000 vehicles in 2024, doubling its numbers from the previous year.
Speaking on the development, Shailesh Hazela, CEO and MD of Stellantis India, said, “We’re excited to announce Leapmotor’s entry into the Indian market. This move strengthens our commitment to India, which we see as a strategically important and high-potential region.”
While a launch timeline has not yet been revealed, Stellantis had earlier indicated that it may use its local manufacturing facility to assemble Leapmotor EVs in India. This would allow the company to sidestep high import duties and offer competitively priced products in a price-sensitive market.
Leapmotor has globally introduced multiple models such as the S01, T03, C11, C10, and B10, and has earned a reputation for building its own critical components, including electric motors, vehicle control units, and AI chips. The company also places a strong emphasis on ADAS.
